Arusha City, Tanzania
Arusha City is located in the north-eastern part of Tanzania and is said to be the halfway point between Cape Town and Cairo. It is surrounded by some of Africa's most famous landscapes and national parks (e.g. Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro). The City is situated at the foot of Mount Meru (4,566 m or 14,980 ft). Elevation at the City level is 1,400m. The climate in Arusha is therefore pleasantly cool year-round. During the meeting, we can expect average temperatures to range from 16°C to 24°C in the day and night, respectively. There will be little to no chance of rain.
The proximity of Arusha to world renowned tourist destinations and the nearby presence of Arusha National Park and Mount Meru make the City a popular tourist hub. The City has a population of approximately 300,000 people and is also an important administrative centre for regional and continental activities. Arusha hosts the headquarters for the East African Community and the African Court on Human and People´s Rights. Thus, there is both capacity and experience in Arusha to successfully host a meeting of our magnitude. There are a sufficient number of hotels and hostels of acceptable and variable quality that can accommodate a wide range of budgets. Additionally, the Arusha International Conference Center - where we will hold most events - has the capacity and technology to suit our needs.
